Woburn Safari park is approximately one hours drive from London, Oxford, Cambridge and Birmingham and makes a great alternative day out for the family on a city break. Established in 1970, the Park allows you to explore, by car and by foot, and observe wild animals behaving as if they were in their natural habitat.
Visitors to the Park can drive through large animal exhibits, which contain species such as white rhino, elephants, tigers and black bears. The animals roam freely, distinguishing the Woburn Safari Park experience from the traditional zoo. The evident happiness of the animals is perhaps the reason why the Park has had such success in its breeding program for endangered species, which, most recently, produced a baby Rothschild Giraffe in October 2006.
Bear feeding, sea lion demonstrations, birds of prey demonstrations, keeper talks, squirrel monkey, penguin, lemur and wallaby feeding are just some of the activities on offer at the park. Other features of Woburn Safari Park include an African Ungulate (hoofed animal) Conservation Centre as a focal point for conservation and breeding programs for endangered species, believed to be the largest such facility in Europe, The park also has a 40 acre leisure area featuring an Elephant Encounter area. There are also play facilities for young children, a large gift shop and a restaurant.
For golf enthusiasts, there are also three championship golf courses on the estate where the Safari Park is situated. The quiet woodland setting makes for a uniquely relaxing afternoon on the course. The picturesque Georgian village of Woburn is also an enjoyable place to explore or to have dinner after a day at the Park.
During the winter the Park opens at 11am and last entry is at 3pm, for a 4pm closure. In the summer, the park opens at 10am and last entry is at 5pm. Tickets, which can be purchased online or at the ticket kiosk (although bare in mind the long queues for the Park in the summer) vary in price depending on the season.
